Multi-Use Sports Facility

The City of Port Coquitlam is constructing a new Multi-Use Sport Covered Facility. This new facility will expand year-round, dry floor sport opportunities for local teams, athletes and community groups.

The facility will feature a covered, lit playing surface with a floor lined for lacrosse, and the flexibility to host a wide range of other sports and community programs. Built with mass timber, a sustainable material that reflects the natural setting along the Coquitlam River, the project also includes new change rooms and washrooms, spectator seating, improved parking and site access, pathway connections for walking and cycling, and new trees and landscaping.

The Government of British Columbia has committed $3 million in funding, alongside previously approved City capital budget allocations, to help deliver an inviting and versatile facility that strengthens Port Coquitlam’s recreation infrastructure.

What We’re Building

Planned elements include:

  • Mass timber building to support flexible, multi-sport programming
  • New washrooms and change rooms
  • Spectator seating
  • Improved parking and site access
  • Enhanced lighting for safety and visibility
  • Replacement trees and landscaping enhancements

Location

The project is planned on a portion, commonly referred to as the Shaughnessy Bike Park area. The building is proposed as a mass timber structure, showcasing feature wood as part of the design.

The facility is intended to be situated closer to the Shaughnessy Street frontage to help maintain environmental setbacks from the Coquitlam River and to integrate with planned site services and access.

The City’s design approach will prioritize sustainable materials and strategies that integrate the facility into this natural area.

Bike Park

The facility is located in the Shaughnessy Bike Park area along Shaughnessy Street. The City is developing a plan to relocate and revitalize the bike park and will share it with the community.

The site was selected from more than a dozen locations reviewed across the City for its access, connections to the surrounding area and revitalization potential.
